Our Story
Hammer & Chisel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles through vocational training and life skills development. Our mission is to enhance self-esteem and personal worth by providing essential skills in trades, beauty, automotive, healthcare, and culinary fields. We aim to divert young individuals from negative influences, such as gangs and substance abuse, by equipping them with the tools needed for successful, fulfilling lives.
Programs and Services
Mobile Outreach: Interactive sessions introducing children to the basics of construction and related trades, sparking curiosity and interest from a young age.
The Craft House: Hands-on training in construction, woodworking, plumbing, electrical work, and project management.
Expanded Vocational Training: Programs in automotive mechanics, cosmetology, culinary arts, and healthcare, ensuring diverse interests and needs are met.
Impact and Success Metrics
Youth Engagement: We measure the number of youths actively participating in our programs and monitor their engagement levels and retention rates throughout their involvement.
Skill Development: Our success is reflected in the skills acquired and certifications earned by participants across vocational areas such as trades, beauty, automotive, healthcare, and culinary arts. We track their progress from initial training to mastery.
Employment and Educational Outcomes: We track the outcomes of our participants post-training, including the number who secure employment in their chosen fields or pursue further education, highlighting our role in facilitating economic independence.
Personal Growth: We assess improvements in self-esteem, confidence, and life skills among participants through structured evaluations and feedback mechanisms, ensuring holistic development.
